My brother and sister-in-law are expecting their second child at the end of February and even though they have everything they probably need for the new baby, I thought it would be nice to put together a little something something anyway. So began my search for a handmade gift!

In my wandering I came across the great idea of wrapping up onesies and washcloths to look similar to cupcakes. So I decided to try my hand at it... and you can too!! (I apologize for the camera phone photos!)

Here is my supply list:
1 pack of 5 newborn onesies
1 pack of 6 matching washcloths
5 rubber bands
5 cupcake liners
ribbon

Additional:
5 decorative cupcake liners by Quickutz
cardstock
gift box
tissue paper

I started by opening up the packs and matching up onesies with washcloths (plain onesies with pattern cloths and vice versa). Then I took the onesies and folded the bottom up and the sleeves in to make a rectangle... then I folded the rectangle in half lengthwise to get a uniform shape. Then take the washcloth and fold into a rectangle by folding it in half, then in half again.

Roll the onesie starting at the bottom allowing it to wrap around slightly under the previous wrap to give it that frosting look, then take the washcloth and where the onesie ends, begin wrapping the washcloth around to look like the wrapper. You might have to give it a few tries to get it looking the way you want. Then take a rubber band and band the cupcake to hold it together. Do this with all 5 onesies and washcloths (I had 1 washcloth left over).

After everything was banded together and I liked how it looked, I rolled the rubber band down the cupcake a bit to make room to tie the ribbon. I took a piece of green ribbon and tied a simple bow around each and popped them in regular white cupcake liners.

For extra cuteness I picked out some yellow and green cardstock and used my cupcake liner die by Quickutz to cut out the decorative liners.

In a box with tissue paper they go!

Ta da! This mini project took less than an hour from start to finish and is such a cute gift to welcome a new baby.
